PROPOSED ROAD CLOSING IN THE CAMBRIDGE DISTRICT.

Ox Saturday next, May 28th, a meeting of ratepayers in the Cambridge Roai District will be held in the Criterion Hotel, Cambridge, to consider the question of closing a portion of what is known as the tramway road, running through the Feucourt property. More than usual interest has been aroused in this matter in consequence of the one-sided offer made by the Assets Board when first communicating with the Cambridge Road Board ou the subject. The correspondence between the Assets Realisation Board's solicitor, Mr A. Hanna, and the Cambridge Road Board began iu December last, when Mr Hanna proposed an exchange by dedicating what is known as the French Pass Road on the Karapiro Estate,in exchange for the Tramway Road piece. The difference in area being compensated for by the Assets Board undertaking all expenses for survey, dedication, etc., in both cases. To this the Board replied that they declined to include the Freuch Pass Road in the question, aud in the matter of the Tramway Road, with an area of some 18$ acres, the Board had no objection to proceedings being taken to close it, at the same time pointing out that the value of the Tramway Road was from £6 10s to £8 per acre, whilst the value of the French Pass Road was from 53 to 10s per acre. In the course of the correspondence Mr Hanna drew attention to the fact that the French Pass Road had never been dedicated, but it is claimed by the Board that having exercised control over this road for over 20 years, this constitutes a right and does away with any necessity for dealing with it under the Public Works Act. This, however, does not come up for discussion on Saturday, the real point at issue is whether that portion of the Tramway Road running through the Fencourt property shall be closed or not, and the ratepayers are called upon on Saturday to record their votes for or against the proposal.

The highest-prised American coin is the Lord Baltimore farthing, a tiny piece for which as much as £72 has been paid;
