PIRONGIA.
Otorohanca Road.—Up to the present time, a'though for many years causing considerable trouble to travellers between here and Otorohanga, there has been no proper road defined between the two townships. This desirable work is about to be cotnmmeed, as Mr C. W. Hursthouse, district surveyor, is now engaged in laying out the line for the new road. Up to now the route was hard to find to a stranger, particularly so, for what was the road one mouth would be changed the next, the traveller finding an impracticable fence erected meautime, causing him a long detour and naughty exclamations of cuss words. Stout.—Although I have not heard of any heavy bags being made, judging from the reports of guns in all directions pheasants must be p.etty plentiful. There have been several shooting parties from town and other districts who have been smite satisfied with their sport, and some have gone on to Kuwhia, where the birds are reported not to be so wild as on this side. Pigeons are also more plentiful in the King Country this season. A friend gave a Maori 50 cartridges to go out with, who returned with the same number of pigeons as he had received cartridges.—(Own Correspondent).
