CABLE EXTENSION.
(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT). (Received May 20,12.6 p.m.) Melbourne, May 20. The Argus' London correspondent states that notice has been given to the Hawaiian Government that the French cable connecting Australia and New Caledonia is to be immediately extended to 'Frisco, via Tahiti and the Sandwich Islands. This of course woull place the Pacific cable under the immediate control of France and America, and «thus forestall the proposed British cable.
