AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATIONS.
IMPORTANT DISCUSSION. At a meeting of the Wellington Agticul tural and Pastoral Association, Messrs Stuckey and Bradey were appointed to represent the association at the Agricultural Conference at Christchurch on June 6th. Mr Stuckey was authorised to move, " That the conference recommend to every agricultural and pastoral association in New Zealand that all horses (both entires and mares) entered in the breeding class at their shows be examined by a qualified veterinary surgeon as to hereditary unsoundness, and that those not passing such examination be not p'aced before the judges, and that those which pass be presented with a certificate to that effect on payment of an extra entry fee." Should the motion be passed Mr Stuckey will move, " That the Government be approached with the view to allow it to permit its veterinary surgeons to act as examiners at such exhibitions.'' Another question that will be brought up by the local delegates is that of the affiliation of all agricultural and pastoral associations with a central body, to consist of delegates from each association. Mr Stuckey commenced a discussion on the advisableness of asking the Government jo prohibit the importation of breeding cattle from Australia. Several speakers referred to the danger of allowing pleuro-pneumonia and other affected stock to come here. It was resolved to recommend the conference to request the Government to attend to this important question without delay.
