♦ (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, Last Night. Before the Chief Justice and Mr justice Edwards, the application by Mr Mills, M.H.R., has beeu heard for a new trial in the libel action against the Christchurch Press, in which a verdict was given for defendants. After hearing counsel, the Court dismissed the motion, with £lO 10s costs. In the case Mills v. Otago Daily Times, in which a verdict was given for plaintiff and defendants moved for a new trial on the ground that evidence on their behalf had beeu improperly refused admission, namely that they had been denied the opportunity of finding out from Constable Jeffries why he was removed, judgment was reserved.
