RAGLAN.

* Church Meeting.—Ac a meeting of the attendants of the Congregational Church, Raglan, presided over by Mr Leach, pastor, the following were elected to serve on the church committee for the ensuing year : Messrs Nicholson and A. Smith and Misses Bay and Johnston. Band of Hope.—Tbe first meeting for the season of the Band of Hope was held on Wednesday evening last. There was a full house, and many were uuable to obtain seats. Mr Leach occupied the chair and opened the meeting with a brief speech upon the advantages of temperance. The following programme was carried out : —Song, " Beautiful Home," Miss Harsant ; reading, " Selections from Gough," Mr Williams ; violin solo, Miss Tapp ; recitation, " Two Blacksmiths," Master Percy Tapp ; reading, " Yorkshire Dialect," Mr Leach ; soDg, Mr J. Nicholson. At this stage Mr T. B. Hill gave an address on temperance, and took the opportunity of vindicating the Premier from charges of supplying natives with liquor on the occasion of a visit of his to the King Country. Then followed a recitation by Miss Cora Hill ; song, " Wandering Through the City," Miss Williams ; dialogue, Misses Williams and Harsant. * Fishing.—During the last month a good many good hauls of fish have been secured in the harbour by MrVercoeand others. On Friday last, whilst Mr Vereoe, who was out fishing in bis boat, after a long struggle succeeded in capturing a shark eight feet long. After the fish had been photographed it was given to the natives. The fishing season among tbe natives is now nearly over. The quantities of dried fish of all kinds recently hanging around their whares have been removed, a great portion of which has been taken inland for the use of their native friends there, who greatly relish the same.—(Own Correspondent).
