POLICE COMMISSION.

o (by telegraph—press association). Gseymouth, Thursday. At the Police Commission, Inspector Cullen said he favoured Otsgo, Auckland, and Canterbury being divided into smalkr police districts, and the Grey district being made larger, by including Marlborough, with headquarters at Nelson instead of Greymouth. The force of the colony was physically and mentally weak. Military training did not tenrt to produce good policemen. The West Coast was frier from crime than any part of the colony. The Rev. Mr Garlick complained of gambling being openly carried on during the carnival last year. He had endeavoured uuavailingly to stop it. Mr Tunbridgc said he had given instructions to put down gambling, and to sec when the Colonial Secretary granted permits that only works of art were disposed of.
