WAIKATO AMATEUR ATHLETIC SPORTS.
• «♦ ' Great interest is being taken in the forthcoming sports, meeting to be held under the auspices of the Waikato Amateur Athletic Club, and more especially in the football tournament ; which is a novelty in this part of the country. For the benefit of those who are not acquainted with a seven a-side tournament, we publish the following rules : The Referees decision shall be final ; all heats must be started at the appointed time, teams failing to start when directed by the Refeiee will be disqualified ; tournaments to be decided on Rugby Unon rules ; ends to be changed after first five minutes, and another spell of live minutes to be played without interval ; should there be no scores, or equal scores in the first ten minutes, play to continue until a score Ins been made and to cease immediately upon such score ; only the winners of heats are eligible to play in next round ; the Referee has power to allow any time unnecessarily wasted by a team in taking kick at goal. The rules regulating the One Mile Relay Race, which is also a new feature in Waikato, are as follows :—Teams to be composed of four men each, one man only of each team to contest the first quarter of a mile, the running then to be taken up by the man of each team, but the second man is not allowed to start until the first man has completed his quarter. Time to be calculated from the pistol fire at the commencement of the race, until the fourth man of each team has finished. Entries for all the events close with the secretary (Mr C. Blackburn) on Saturday. Entry fee, Is.
