RAILWAY SERVICE.
DEPUTATION TO MR GRANT. Mr Grant, the Manager of the Auckland Railways, visited Cambridge on Saturday last and met a deputation in Mr Wells' office. The deputation asked for some advantage arising out o! liie miming of the express train to Rotonn, and also that a night train might leave Auckland about 4.15 p.m. once a week, on either Thursday or Friday, for Cambridge. MY Grant stated, in reply, that the Rotorua Express would cease to run at the ■ nd of this month, but when it commenced to run again he would be willing for the Cambridge train to connect with it instead of with the ordinary train as at present. This would enable passengers to reach Cambridge about 1 30 instead of 3 30 p.m., but it would entail the necessity of leaving Auckland about 8 a.m , instead of at 9.30 as at present. He would like to be quite clear that the district would appreciate the change before making ir. With reference to the weekly night train, Mr Grant said he had been waited upon more than once and recognised that it would be a great, convenience to the district, but, for financial reasons, he could not see his way to run the train at present. Mr Grant, however, reminded the deputation that the stock trains in the South were mostly night trains, and that if the settlers were willing to have their stock travelled over the railways here during the night then the weekly night train asked for might be arranged in connection with these trains. In any case, he assured the deputation that he would not lose sight of the matter.
