MODERN SOCIALISM.
TO THE KDITOII. Sin,—Will you allow me to ask the Rev. Dr. Ilosking the following questions : (1) Did our Saviour or His disciples, though landless men, in any piu-t of their ministration point out that they were entitled to it? (2) Is Socialism the doctrine of Salvation as preached l>y Christ? (3) Have not I, or any other person, the same right to th-; rev. doctor's banknotes as either he or 1 have to another person's land ? (4) If it were practicable to divide this land, how would the rev. doctor do it? For instance, one man might get ten acres of good land while at least one thousand other persons would get ten acres each of what might be mostly termed rubbish. This one man might soon be termed a squire, if not something greater. What about the others? — •' Thou shalt not covet ! " Again, can we all be tillers of the ground ? If so, would nototlur occupations full through ? Would the rev. gentleman be inclined to preach for nothing ? How often docs that gentleman propose to divide so as to keep us on an equal footing ?—I am, etc., Edward J. Mofkitt. Ngarnawahia, lGth April, 1898;
