London has 3000 miles of sewers 34,000 miles of telegraph wires, 3200 miles of gas pipes, ami 4500 miles of Welter mains. A recent day's fog cost London £•24,000 for gas alon?. This was exclusive of the cost of electricity and oil and the loss of tradespeople by the stoppage of traffic.
