HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR.

(BY TELEGRAM—OWN correspondent). Wellington, Last Night. The Governor met with an enthusiastic reception at Mastert.on. He was banqueted in the evening. In responding to the toast of his health he said he was not »oing beyond the privileges which a Governor possessed or to infringe the rights of any of the Parliamentary representatives, but when a Governor took upon himself to visit the various parts of the colony he might suggest improvements which he deemed necessary in the interests ot the cbstriet. He had no fear for the patriotism of the colonies. The United Kingdom had spent an enormous sum in this colony's protection, and he had no doubt the clouds in the East were more difficult to disperse than would otherwise be the case owing to the situation of the colonies.

His Excellency is now touring the Wairarapa district. Lord Eanfurly travelled to Hawke's Bay in the State railway carriage specially prepared for his use. It comprises a travelling saloon, bedroom, kitchen, dining-room, pantry, lavatory, bathroom, etc., and is provided with shelves, racks, chests, couches, and other conveniences. Lord Ranfurly dislikes hotels for reasons both of economy and comfort, preferring to eat, sleep anel live in his travelling mansion. The new one is fitted up in a luxurious style, that formerly in use being clumsy, anei it rocked badly, spi'ling the soup, smashing crockcry, and generally making things lively ; consecpicntly it has been relegated in disgrace to somewhere in the back blocks anel turned into a boarding-house for railway navvies.
