AUCKLAND AMATEUR ATHLETIC CARNIVAL.

The Auckland Amateur Athletic Club held its thirty-seveuth carnival on Saturday last. The gathering was surrounded with exceptional interest on account of the meeting of the sprint champions, Stanley Rowley (New South Wales), A. J. Patrick (Wellington) and G. Smith (Auckland), in the 100 yards and 250 yards invitation races. In the former event the Sydney representative won by about two feet, and in the longer distance a magnificent race resulted iu a dead heat between Rowley and Patrick. Most people thought Rowley had won by a few inches, but the three judges decided in favour of a tie. It is stated that an instantaneous photo taken ns the men broke the worsted shows that the Sydneyite had a slight lead from bis opponent.
