WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the Waikato Bospitul and Charitable Aid Board was held at the Council Chambers, Hamilton, on Thursday. There were present: Mcssr-" Win. Dey (chairman), A. Primrose, E. Alleu, 8. Steele, A. Bach. A. J. Farmer. R. J. McGuirk, F. J. Vickcrs, W. C. Riufi, W. P. Chcpmell, W. H. Thomas, A. Furze and J. B. Tcasdale. Waikato Patients. The house steward of the Auckland Hospital notified the admission to that institution of Helena Williams, of Nguruawahia, aud Charles Reed, of Waiorongomai. Mbs Stockton.—Mr Garland, St eretary of the Auckland Charitable Aid Board, notified that there was no room in the Costley Home at present for the admission of Mrs Mary Stockton. Totalizator Tax.—A circular was received from Mr 11. Cooper, Secretary of the Reefton Hospital, asking the Board to support a petition praying the Government to graut that the totalisator tax be placed to the credit of the hospital in the district in which the tax is raised.
Probationer Norses. Miss Bella Germanu, of Paterangi, and Miss H. A. Reynolds, of Newtown, Tasmania, applied for appointment as probationer nurses.—Dr. Kenny, in his repoit, stated tint Miss Millar, who was appointed last month, was unfitted for the position, and recommended the appointment of Misi Gabolinsky, whose name has been on the list for about a year.— The report was adopted. _.** Finance.—The Clerk reported that the amount of fees received for the four *eeks ending March 23rd, 1898, was £7S 19* 3d ; rents, 15s ; Waipa County Council, £77 ; Cambridge Borough Council, £lB2 7s 3d. Government subsidy to receive, £129 ; cash and bank, £ls ; total, £144. Less accounts to pay, £3OO ; debit balaaee at 31st March, 1898, say, £156. Account.*. The following accounts were passed for payment :—Seeguer and Co., £2 6s 8d ; A. E. Manning. £9 15s 2d ; Jno. Knox, £29 16s 2d ; T. Qualtrou«b, £ls 3s 6d ; J. C. Hay, £fi 6s 3d ; milk, £7 10s 5d ; Le Quesnc, £6 6s 6d ; Hayes, £5 : Coyle, £3 7s 6d ; J. Hammond, £6 10s 4d ; T. Keep, £1 16s ; Kennard, £2 ; H. H. Hovvden, £1 3s 6d ; The Waikato Aegcs. £2 18a 6d ; Dr. Waddiogton, £3 3s ; J. S. Bond, £3 13s 6d ; fares, 10s 2d ; S. Rogers, 10s ; B. Ward, £1 ; L. Newton, £1 ; G. G. Wilson, £1 ; E. Allen, 2s 9d ;J. Moore, £1 lis 8d ; salaries, £79 lis 3d ; Charitable Aid, say, £2O ; Auckland Hospital, £33. Shallow Graves.—Mr Wm. Vickers wrote reporting that an old man, named Amos Webb, who died in Hamilton East several weeks ago, had not been buried the required depth.—This matter was referred to the Hamilton East Cemetery Trustees.
Reduction.—An application from Mr R. Morse, of Cambridge, for a reduction in the amount of his account for the treatment of his son,was not entertained, as the Board did not consider his was a deserving case.
Aid.—A couple of applications for aid were received from Te Aroha, one from John Curry and the other from George Russell. —The Board decided to allow the former 5s per week, and to admit the latter to the Refuge. Estimates.—The House Committee in framing their estimates for the coming year fixed the amount of expenditure at £3700, of which the local bodies will contribute £1625, allocated as follows : Piako County Couucil, £498 ; Waikato County Council, £417 10s ; Waipa CuDty Council, £346 5s ; Raglan County Council, £206 ; Hamilton Borough Council, £94 ; Cambridge Borough Council, £63 ss. To this must be added Government subsidy £1625. —The usual formal resolutions in connection with the estimates were passed unanimously. Annual ThNDKRS. —The House Committee recommended that the following tenders should be accepted for the annual supplies :—Bread, E. J. Davey ; meat, T. Qualtrough ; milk, J. D. Melville ; groceries, J. Knox ; liquor?, G. J. Mann; coal, J. Ridler ; drugs, A. E. Manning ; funerals, A. Coylc. The time for receiving tenders for surgical requisites was extended for one month to allow the wholesale houses in Auckland an opportunity of tendering.—The report was adopted. Endowments. —Tenders for Board endowments were received as follows: Lot 254, Mangapiko, 14 year 3, J. B. Teasdale, £8 10s (accepted); Goodfe'low, £5. Lot 266, Mangapiko, 14 years: Two tenders were received for this allotment, one from Mr Teasdale and the other from Mr Davidson, the former making the highest offer. —Mr Furze proposed, and Mr Thomas seconded, that Mr Teasdale's tender should be accepted.—But just at thi9 stage Mr Chepmell discovered that there was no c'ause in the lease relating to white crops, and therefore nothing to prevent a man cropping and taking all the heart out of the land and then throwing it back on to the Board. —Mr Farmer moved an amendment that a clause be inserted in the lease dealing with this matter. This was seconded by Mr Alltn.—The amendment was carried.—Mr Chepmell read a c'ause he had drafted to secure ths Board against such treatment, and proposed that it should bo inserted in this lease and every one issued in the future.—This was seconded by Mr Steele and carried.—Mr Stee'e then proposed, and Mr Allen seconded, that the resolution accepting' the tender of Mr Teasdale for Lot 254 should be icscinded, and this new clause inserted in the lease, but the motion was lost.— The in the condition of the lease will necessitate calling for fresh tenders. Vr Livingston's teuder of £5 was accepted for the Tuhikaramea allotment, and Mr Hunt's offer was accepted for an allotment adjoining his farnr on the Waipa. HOSPITAL Grounds.—Mr Steele proposed, and Mr Thomas seconded, that tour acres of the Hospital grounds on the Hamilton side of the building should be ploughed up and laid down in oats. — Carried.
Rotorua Patiksts. —Mr Furze drew attention to the increasin" number of patients being sent from the Rotorua districts. The Rotorua district did not contribute towards the institution and tlt*y had to take their chance whether the fees were paid or not.—The Clerk said neither the Kawhiu, King Country nor Ro'orua districts contributed towards the Hospital. He had, he said, brought the matter under the notice of l)r. McGregor, but that gentleman only replied that “ It would be all right directly On the motion ot Cr. Steel ', seconded I y Cr.
