Chaff: Steady demand, new chaff scarce. AUCKLAND. The following wholesale prices were ruling in Auckland on Thursday ofternoon :-Chaff (new), £4 to £4 5s ; bran, £3 17s 6d to £4 ; sharps, £5 ; fowl wheat, 4s per bushel (sacks included); maize, 2s lOd per bushel ex wharf and 2s lOd to 3s ex store. Dairy butter, fresh, 7d, second quality, 6d lb wholesale. Eggs, Is 3d dozen wholesale, and Is 6d dozen retail. HAMILTON STOCK MARKETS. At the monthly sale held in the Hamilton Borough Yards on Thursday au average number of stock was brought forward, including a line of young store cattle from the Woodside Estate. Generally speaking cattle of all classes were dull of sale, prices showing a decline from late rates, the advance of the season with scarcity of grass being the cause. Beef cows in full supply, much of it only middling quality, but even the best was in poor demand at from 12s to 14s the 1001 b, a number of pens being passed in. Sheep were well repreaented and in fair demand, nearly everything being cleared. Pigs, particularly wcancrs, were in full number and wellbred.but as may be expected at this end of the season, were lower in price ; larger pig 3 are wanted now. Prices were : Calves, small, 7s 6d to 12s ; good steer calves, 16s to 20s ; yearling heifers, 16s; 18 mouths sciers, 28s to 33s ; heifers, £1 5s to £1 16s ; 2-year steers, £2 5s ; 3-year steers, fresh, £2 ISs to £3 2s 6d ; empty cows (with calves at side), £1 14s to £2 ; fat steers, (small), £2 5s to £3 4s ; medium weights, £4 5s to £4 123 6d ; fat cows, £3 9s to £4 5s loir heavy weights ; dairy cows (choice heifers from Mr S. Steele), £3 10a to £5 ; cows, aged, 30s to £2 10s : young cows, £3 to £4 10s. Sheep : Fat ewes, 5s 9d to 63 3d ; fat lambs, 6s 6d ; store do. (longwool), Gs ; store crossbred ewes, Is 6d to 2s 7d. Pigs : Weaners, 5s 6d to 7s 6d ; slips, 10s to lis 61 ; sow in farrow, £2. A fewhorses were offered, bat none sold. AUCKLAND MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report :—Auckland Wool Stores, 22nd March.—At our weekly sale to-day hides and skins were in large supply, and were keenly competed for. Hides : W T e sold prime stout ox, 6d to 6|d ; heavy stout ox, 5d to sfd ; medium, 4jd to 4 : Jd ; light, 3i,d to 4jd ; cow hides, bist, 3sd to 3Jd ; picked, 4jd ; kip, 3Jd to 3'd ; stags', 2Ad ; calf, sound, 4d to 4-Jd. Sheepskins : Our prices realised were— Salted pelts, 2s to 2s lid ; lambs', Is 4d to 2s 9d ; picked sold to 3* lOd ; country dried skins, from 2s 3d to 4s 91. Tallow : Medium rendecd, 13s to 13s 6d. Horse hair and bones : Horse hair finds a ready sale at from la 3:1 to Is 3_d lb ; bones, £3 10s to £3 15s ton. Oats : The market is still lightly stocked. Buyers are expecting a slight fall when the new crop comes on to the market, and iu consequence are only buying fcr immediate requirements. Present week's quo'ations are : 2s 4d and 2s 3d c.i.f. for B and C grades respectively. Maize . Owing to the vessels arriving during the past week from the maize disti'cts not bringing any maize, stocks have been almost cleaned out, and the maiket has rnen to 2s Sd to 2a 9d ex store. Buying at this price has been very small, as the Dcxt boat from the maize district is expected to bring a full cargo. Chaff is still scarce. Sales arc being made readily for £3 10s at the railway station, though this price may not hold if supplies are sent forward in larger quantities than has been the case during the last week. Messrs Alfred Bcckland and Sons' Welkly Report.—At the Haymarket the improved value of fodder noted last week v was sustained. Oaten sheaves brought 3s 3d ; meadow, 3s to 3s 3d the cwt ; Dun oats, 2s 7d to 3s ; feed oats, 2s 7d to 2s 8d ; maize, 2s lOd the bushel. Grass seeds are also mo\ing freely. Poverty Bay rye grass, Gs 3d ; Canterbury rye grass, 4; 6d ; cocksfoot, Gs Gd to 7s ; Italian rye lira??, 4s 6.1 ; local rye grass, 2s to 3s 6d the bushel ; cow grass, 8d ; white clover, 9d ; alsyke, 8d ; red clover, 7d ; timothy, 5d ; red top, Is ; Chewin'3 fescue, 7d ; crested dogstail. Is 4d the lb ; Chesterfield guaro, £3 10s ; Bundara bonedust £6 ; Auckland bonedust, £6 15s ; blood manure, £4 10s ; pressed straw, £3 ; pressed hay, £3 10s ; chaff, £3 15s ; potatoes, £3 lo £4 123 6d the ton. On Friday horse stock in usual supply, with a demand for draught horse etock (suitable for farm-work. Those
brought from £l2 to £l7 each ; a pair of horses and harness, £34 ; light springcart horses, £7 to £lO ; heavy draught tilly, £'22. were the prid's given. On Tuesday, hides were in demand at fully late values. Ox hides brought from 3.\d to 5d ; cow hides, 3id to 3fd ; stags, 2.\d ; calf skins, 3d to 4_d the lb ; tails, Is 3d the dozen ; fat, l|it the lb ; tullow, lis to 14s; boces, £3 10s the cwt. Sheep pelts kept their values, and brought from Is (id to "2s Sd ; lambs. Is Gd to 2s 9d etch ; lambs' wool, old ; flcecs wool, ojd to Gd ; pieces and dead woo', 3|d to s}d the lb. At the sheep fair on Wedne*.day many of the ewes off. red were old and in low condition. Prices were in favour of the buyer compared with last sale. Ewes ranged in price from 1* 9d to Ss ; wethers, 4a Od to 8s ; lambs, 3s to Ss ; two-tooth Lincoln rams, £2 to £2 sa; Romney, £2 ; black-faced, 9s to 12< each. At Reninera on Thursday dairy cows, in usual supply, kept their p ice. Good animals were irom £4 15s to £6 each. Calves in full number, SO sold, were required, ami sold freely. Fat cattle in leas than usual number, 185 sold. Govs were at last week's values, 12s to 14s. Sti ers advanced 15s each on last week's prices, and wc-c at 17s and ISs the 1001 b. Steers ranged fiom £6 to £9 ; cows, £3 to £5 15s e:ich. Fat shesp, in full number, 1600 sold, were firm at list week's advance. Wethers ranged from 8s to 12s Gd ; ewes, 5s 61 to 9s 9J each. Fat lambs in limited number, 210 sold, brought from 7s to 9s 3d each. Pigs of a good class well represented, 68 sold. Pursers ranged fiom 19s to £1 15s : slips, Gs 3d each. LONDON MARKETS. (BY TKLEGKArH—OWN COKKESPONDKNT). Wellington, Last Night.—Market cable (per Loan and Mercantile Agency) : Loodou, March 24th.— The wool sales have progressed firmly since the close of the last series. Washed and scoured Merino, superior scoured Merino and medium and iuferior are Id lb higher. Merino slipesj greasy and washed Merino, medium and iuferior and fine greasy crossbred are Ad to Id per lb higher. Crossbred slipe and medium greasy crossbred are from par to Ad lower. Medium washed and scoured coarse greasy, washed and scoured crossbred and greasy Merico lambs, medium and inferior, are from par to fd lb. lower. Other descriptions are unchanged. The total quantity catalogued to date is 91,0(H) bales. Frozen me it : The mutton market is firmer. Canterbury mutton is worth 3j}d lb ; Sonthland, 3|d ; Wellington, 2|d. The lamb market is weak. Canterbury lamb is worth 4Ad. Tallow : Market quiet. New Zealand fine mutton is worth 22s 6d, and New Zealand good beef is worth 21s. FRUIT MARKETS. [l'EB SPECIAL TtLEGRAMS TO W.F.A], Wellington, yesterday.—Good cooking apple, free of moth 4s Gd to 5s 6d. Dessert: Cox's Orange Pippin, 5s Gd to 6s Gd ; Prrmaius, 6s to 7s ; Gravesteiu, 6s to 7s 6d. Plums are worth 8s to 12s per case of 461 b. Pears : Good dessert kinds, 8s to 10s ; medium, 4s 6d to 7s ; cooking sorts, 5s to 7s per case ; peaches, 3s 6d to 4s Gd per half cise.
