A FAREWELL AT NEWSTEAD.
A farewell social gathering was held on Monday evening last, March '2lst, at the residence of Mr Henry Osborne, at Newstead, on the occasion 'of his departure for Waiornogoniai, he having purchased a farm in that neighbourhood. After supper, Mr A. C Blaekmore, on behalf of a large circle of friends and well wishers, presented Mr and Mrs Osborne with an address and a massive silver cruet and biscuit barrel. A birthday present of a gold brooch was also made to Miss Amy Osborne, it being that young lady's seventeenth birthday. After the presentations had been duly acknowledge by Mr Osborne on behalf of himself and family, the evening was devoted to music and dancing, anda very pleasant time was passed. Ihe following is the text of the addre-s :
Newstead, March 21st, 1898.—T0 Mr H. H. Osborne,—Dear Frieud,—Embracing tliis timely opportunity, we wish to express our sincere regret at losing you from cur midst. As a kind and genial neighbour, you have been ever ready to make others we'eome to your home, and your kind hospitality will be remembered and missed by many. May you succeed in the uew sphere yen have chosen, with your good wife and helpmate ever at your side, together with your children. The accompanying gift we beg yuu to accept as a small token in remembrance of a few of the many friends you have made while here. May God spare you all, and may He bless you with health and prosperity is the earnest wish of your many friends and wellwishers.—Yours sincerely—A. C. Blackmore, S. Potter, R. Libeau, F.
