SOUDAN CAMPAIGN.
BATTLE MOVEMENT. London, March 16. Reports from Berber state that the forces under Mahmud, the Dervish general, and Osman DignaleftShendy on the Nile, n«ar Metammeh, on the 12 th instant, and are rapidly advancing northwards. The Askaris, from Kassala, captured a Dervish position beyond tho Atbara River. The Dervishes lost twenty men during the fight. A son of Osman Digna narrowly escaped being captured. Cairo, March 16. The Egyptian troops ejected the Dervishes from Shebaliya Island, killing thirty. Mahmud's advance party has arrived within five miles of the Atbara. Six squadrons of Egyptian cavalry have left Kunar, in order to get in touch with the enemy. The railway line has now been com* pleted for a distance of 83 miles south of Abu Hamed, and the river Atbara has been made navigable to Shendy.
