Spouts.—A meeting of those interested in getting up sports on the Queen's Birthday was convened at Mr Laurie's Hotel on Saturday evening last. Mr R. Mearß was voted to the chair. It was decided that spores be held the same as last year in Mr Mears' paddock. It was stated by the Secretary that there was a considerable surplus on hand from last year. Mr Lang, M.H.R, was elected Patron, and Mr J. T. Edwards President. A committee was appointed to carry out the details ami make all necessary arrangements. A vote of thanks to the Secretary (Mr T. Prince) for his past services was carried. The Late Murder Cash.—Be the late murder ca~e, not only considerable commait but indignation is expressed at the verdist ; insanity is said to be all moonshine. If every person who commits a murder owing" to bad temprr gets off under the p!ea of insanity, we shall soon have our asylums full. It is considered the verdict will have a bad moral effect, as there are many men who would think no'hing of taking human life to gratify their revenge if they thought they would not get hanged. It is po r satisfaction to the widuw and orphans to see their father shot dead before their eyes and tho cold-blooded murderer let off, to be well taken care of at the public's expense. —(Own Coirespondent).
