The Kgmont Farmers' Union (Limited), report under flate—Htiwera, 3rd March, 1898 : We held our monthly Horse Fair at the Horse Bazaar, Bawera, on Saturday, the 26th ult., when a fair entry was submitted. The attendance was good and bidding spirited for harness norses, and at the close of the sale the greater number of those entered were sold. We quote : Draughts, £l7 to £l9 10s ; harness horses, £ll 5s to £ls ; hacks, £3 10s to £l4 10s. At our Hawera sale held on Wednesday, the 2nd inst., more cattle and sheep came forward than were advertised Bidding for large cattle was dull, but there was a fair competition for the yonng steers, also the sheep. We quote : Fat bullocks, £4 to £4 5s ; fat cows, £2 7s Gd to £2 12* 6d ; heifers in calf, £2 2s 6(1 to £2 7s 6d ; 18-months to two-year steers, £1 Sd to £1 10s 6d ; yearlings, mixed, 14s to 17s 6d ; weaners, 6s to 7s 6d. Sheep : Cull ewes, 2s 6d to 3s 3d ; woolly lambs, sa.
