RAGLAN.
Church Services. The Ecv. E. M. Cowie conducted service at the various centres around Raglan on Sunday last. At Raglan 8 a.m. and 7 F- m -< at Te Mata 11 a.m., and Waitetnna in the afternoon. A'l the services were well atlendtd ; those at Raglan and Te Mata especially so. Mr Cowie also visited the families of settlers during his stay here, and christened several of their children. Church Soiree. —A very successful social gathering to:>k place on Tuesday evening in connection with the Anglican Church, in the Public Hall, Rag'an. The hall was most tastefully decorated with ferns anel other greenery : there was also a very choice, desplay of fb>gs (kindly lent by the Noith rn Steamship Company ), for whom Mr Sutton is agent. The tallies for tea were lad out with great taste, and the supply of the good thiugs thereon, was all that coulel be desired. The company sat down to three tables at 6 p.m. The ladies e.f the district deserve great credit for the paiii3 taken to make this part of the soiree a great success. After tea at 7.30 p.m. a very successful concert took place, all the items being received with applause. The Rev. It'. M. Cowie (Chairman) briefly addressed the mect'ng, expressing bis pleasure at meeting so many there. He spoke of the object of these meetings, the success attained and the debt of gratitude they owed to the ladies for their efforts, which had proved so successful. The following musical programme was then gone through : Musical selection, " Farewell," Mrs Mathias ; song, "Whisper and I Shall Hear," Mrs Whitaker, encored and 4, Gr?ce Darling" given; song, " Nazareth," Mr Houchen, encored and " Off to Philadelphia " given ; song, " When the Flowing Tide Comes In," Viss Rastrick ; music 1 selection (violin and piano), Miss Tapp and Mrs E. O. Wallis ; song, " Kathleen Mavourneen," Mrs Daw, encored and " Lovers Quarrels" given ; song, " The Consecration of the Banner," Miss Kendell, encored; song, " Castle Gate," Mr Savage, encored and "Spider and the Ely" given ; song, " The Song that Reached My Heart," Miss Rastrick ; song, " The Carnival," Mrs Whitaker, encored and " When Will You Marry Me My Pretty
Maid " given ; musical selection, " The Chimes," M'ss Cogswell; song " The Thistle,'' Miss K. Savage ; song, "Going to Market," Mrs Daw, encor. d. The efforti of a'l were appreciated, more particularly those of Mrs Whitaker and Mrs Daw. A hearty vote of thanks was given to the Chairman and briefly acknowledged by him, also to the ladies. The Hall being e'eared of forms, etc., dancing b gan, and was kept up till the early hours of next morning. This concluded a moit happy, and successful social gathering.—(Own Correspondent).
