TE AWAMUTU.

Social.—There was a large attendance at the social given in the Town Hall in connection with St. John's Anglican Church to welcome the Re v. J.L.A.Kayll, who arrived the previous day to take charge of the VVaikuto West Parish. All the districts were well represented, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Previous to the supper interval Mr C. A. Taylor, the Church Warden, formally introduced the new minister. The rev. gentleman on stepping forward was received with much applause, and in the course of a few remarks said that he had not eome with the idea of being the right man iu the right place. He had come to do his best and to be one of the people and was not going to make a lot of promises. The arrangements in connection with the services would be as the late vicar had left them. In conclusion, he thanked the people for the kind spirit of welcome they had shown. During the evening songs were given by Mrs Gardiner, Miss Allan, Miss Ross, and Messrs Fell and Ross. Mr Bell, of Pirongia, gave a recitation, " Lady Jane," which caused roars of laughter. Light refreshments was handed around, and the dance mi's : c was supplied by the different ladies present. Creamery.—The total supply of milk received at the local creamery for the month of February was 28,228 gallons, na against 23,876, received for the corresponding period of 1897, being an increase of 4352 gallons. Accident.—A. short time before the close of the social on Thursday, evening, it was rumoured that an accident had happened on the Te Awamutu-Kihikilu Road, to Miss Qualtiough, of Orakau. She was returning home, accompanied with others, when the hoise she was riding, fell and rolled over her, breaking the unfortunate young lady's leg. At the time of writing, I am without full particulars of the accident.—(Own Correspondents
