KIRIKIRIROA ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Kirikiriroa Road Board was held at the Council Chambers, Hamilton East, yesterday. There were present:—Messrs John Gordon (chairman), W. Chitty, T. Paterson and Jno. Primrose. Sleiohs on Roads.—The Clerk reported, that as requested, he had looked up the Act regarding the use of sleighs on the county roads, and found that the Public Works Act distinctly piovided a tine of £lO for allowing any material net wholly raised on wheels to be dragged along a road ; also that he had instructed the Foreman of Works to warn the offenders. The Closed Road.—The Clerk also stated that the valuer appointed by the Board, Mr E. L. Hope, had pluced a value of £5 10a an acre upon the closed portion of the Tramway Road. Taupiri Road.—Messrs Friar, Divies and Company wrote reporting upon the state of the Taupiri Road from the Bonemill to Mr Stubbing's property, which they .said was in an impassable condition. —The Clerk tvus instructed to rep'y that this matter was already under consideration. PiPES.--An appl : cation from Messrs Douglas Bros., of Hamilton, for a set of 12-inch pipes was referred to the Foreman of Works, with power to act. Valuation Roll.—The Valuer-Gene-ral wrote, informing the Board that the valuation rolls would not be ready until the 31st March. Jackson's Landing.—The Chairman said that, in company with Mr Worthington, he had inspected the landing at Taupiri where the encroachment was going on, and in measuring the depth of the water close to the bank he found that the piles would have to be 25 feet in order to reach the solid bottom. Totara piles of this length would cost £3 a-piece, and to use them would entail a considerable amount of expense. Pe considered that bluegnm piles would be equally as serviceable, and if they did not last quite as loog as the totara, they would at any rate last until the willows took a firm hold. He offered to supply them free of cost, and the offer was thankfully accepted by the Board.—The work was left entirely in the hands of Mr Worthington, Mr Paterson being requested to act as supervisor. Finance.—The clerk read tho following statement of the Board's financial position :—Receipts, £730 10s lOd ; expenditure, £433 19s; balance, £296 lis lOd ; rates, £462 7s lOd ; outstanding rates, £4B 9s lOd ; subsidy, £lls 8s 2d ; leaving a balance available from all sources of £460 9s lOd. Foreman's Report.—The report of the Foreman of Works was rend and approved. Tenders —The following tenders were received for the various gravelling contracts:—R. Watte : No. 1, 10}d ; No. 2, lid; No. 3. Hid. G. Wishart: No. 1, lljd; No. 2, lid; No. 3, Is. F. W. Littlewood : No. 2, lid. C. Wallace, junr. : No. 3, lid. Mr Waitc's tender was accepted for contract No. 1. For contract No. 2 the three applicants tendered at the same price. Preference was given to Messrs Wishart and Littlewood, who are ratepayers, and the drawing of lots resulted in favour of Mr Littlewcod. Mr Wallace's tender of lid for contract No. 3 was accepted. Road Wokks. —It was resolved to call for tenders, to be in at the next meeting, for claying one mile of the Taupiri road, from the bonemill to Stubbies, and gravelling 400 yards on the UPrknown as Waring's, at Taupiri. Accounts.—The following payments were authorised :—Kauri Timber Company, £l7 13s 3d ; Clerk, £7 10s; Collector, 4s lOd ; Johu Franklin, £8 ; M. Riley, £6 93; Chas. Wallace, £lO ; R. Waite, £27 4h 3d.
