CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the above Committee was held in the Borough Chambers, Cambridge, on Friday, at 7.30 p.m. There were present: Messrs G. E. Clark (chairman), J. Webber, A. Bach, W. H. Wright, F. J. Brooks and Jas. Hally. Painting.—The Chairman had written to the Board of Education stating that although the Committee had been advised some time that the order had been issued for the Board's workmen to paint the teacher's residence, the work had not yet been commenced.—A. reply had been received to the effect that it would be done at an early date. Water Supply.—The Chairman said the Board had forwarded a new iion tank to replace the one worn out, but it was not yet erected. He engaged Mr K. Morse to do the work, and started with him to the school to show what was required, when he (Morse) stopped to opeak to someone near Kerr's Hotel, and remained there. The speaker said he waited at the school for some time for Hone, and then weat down the street again, and found that individual waiting near the hotel, and as he was not civil he was told he need not troub!e to do the work. That was why the tank was not yet erected. Inspectors.—A circular was received from the Elthani School Committee commending the following resolution—which had betn unanimously carried by the fir warding committee—for contideratiou, with the hope that it would be adopted : " That the various School Committees be communicated with, with a view to having united action taken for the purpose of placing the inspectorial staff under the authority of the Education Department."—Mr Brooks thought the suggestion of the Eltham Committee would add very considerably to the expense. It might be to the advantage of some schoolmasters to get rid of certain Inspectors, but in his opinion they should not do anything in the matter till more urgent reasons were advanced, —The communication was received. Finance.—A notification was received that the Board had placed £lO to the credit of the committee. Paction of Members oe tub Education Board.—The Chairman said they would have to vote at that meeting for individuals to fill the vacancies upon the Education Board. He presumed two of the three would be those whom they had nominated, viz., Messrs Bagnall and Luke. The other applicants were Messrs Robert Farrell, of Auckland, Norman A. McLeod, of Dargaville, Chas. Newman, of Hellensville, and G. ClarkWalker, of WhaDgarei.—Mr Gresham, of Te Awamutu, wrote urging the committee to vote for Mr McLeod, but it was decided to favour Mr Farrell, and the votes were recorded for Messrs Bagnall, Luke and Farrell.
Scuool Excursion. A discussion then ensued about the annual school excursion, and it was decided to ask the Hamilton Committee to take the initiative in getting up the excursion this year. —The wishes of the Cambridge Committee were anticipated, for in our next morning's issue it was notified that the excursion had been arranged by the Hamilton Committees.
