ORDINATION AND INDUCTION OF REV. W. SMITH.

The ordination and induction of the Eev. Walter Smith to the NgaruavvahiaHuntly parish took place at Ngaruawahia on Tuesday last. The service, which began at 12 noon, was held in the Presbyterian Church. The Rev. John Macdonald, of Mangere, conducted worship and preached from James i. 5. Thereafter the Rev. Robert Somerville, Clerk of the Auckland Presbytery, put the questions of the ordination formula to Mr Smith, and these having been satisfactorily answered Mr Smith was solemnly ordained and set apart to the work of the Holy Ministry by the laying on of the hands of the Presbytery, and iuducted to the pastoral charge of Nga-ruavvahia-Huntly. The Moderator (Rev. J. M. Mitchell) offered the ordination prayer. Immediately after his ordination Mr Smith was addressed by the Rev. J. M. Mitchell and the congregation by the Rev. Thos. Scott, M.A. The solemn service was brought to a close by the pronouncement of the benediction. The ordination dinner was prepared by Mr Josh. Smith, of the Waipa Hotel. In the evening a soiree was held in Ralph's Hall, Huntly, which was filled to its utmost cnpacily. The moderator presided. Addresses were given by the chairman and the Revs. MacDonald, Smith, Somnierville, Findlay and Dr. Hosking. A splendid programme of songs and solos was rendered during the evening by the following ladies and gentlemen : Misses Reid, Hamilton; Paterson, Ngaruawabia ; Troughear, Huntly ; Messrs Sneliing and F. Hunt, Ngaruawahia ; Revs. Dr. Hosking and J. M. Mitchell, Hamilton ; Miss Soppett played the accompaniments. Mr Cheyce, of Wairangi, was present in full Highland costume, ana delighted the audience with his bagpipe solos and his dancing. Mr Smith has received a right hearty welcome from the people of his charge and from all classes in the community. His co-Presbyters were greatly gratified at the heartiness of his reception. They know well that he is worthy rf it.
