TERRIBLE DISASTER.

CR IT ISER BLOWN UP. New York, February IG. A TERRIFIC explosion occurred on the American ciuisor Maine, lying at Havana, Cuba. Many were killed aud injured, and two hundred are roported missing. The explosion caused much damago throughout the city. It is believed the Maine is totally destroyed. The explosion occurred in the Maine's bow under the men's quarters. Many were blown into the sea in their night clothes, and were rescued by Spanish warships. All the officers escaped except two. After the explosion the Maine ran upon a bank enveloped in flames. The captain of the Maine has cabled to the American Government that public opinion in judging of the cause of the explosion had better be suspended. Spain has expressed great regret at the disaster.
