INSURANCE LOSSES.

(by telegraph.—own correspondent) Wellington, Last Nujht. At the recent conference of Insurance Companies here, it was stated that in 1897 the losses in New Zealand wore close on £300,000. That amount does not include the losses which the companies may hive sustained beyond the colony. In 1896 the loss incurred did not fall far short of the same figure. Tho conference elected Mr Frank Allen, central manager of the Commercial Union, to be President for the Council of the New Zealand Fire Underwriters Association.
