TROUBLE IN INDIA.

London, February 12. Despatches from General Sir George White, who is relinquishing the chief command of the army in India, make reference to the campaign on the north-west frontier. He specially compliments Major Desvoeux, commanding the 36th Sikhs, upon the brilliant defence of Fort Gulistan against a large force of tribesmen in September last. The Queen visited the Royal Victoria Military Hospital at Netley yesterday, and condoled with 400 soldiers invalided from India in consequence of wounds sustained in fighting on the frontier. It is reported from India that the Afridis have been allowed uutil the 25th to submit to the British. A railway survey has been ordered from Jenrud to Luudi Kotal.
