CRICKET.
TE AWAMUTU V. OHAUTO. Tins match was played ou St. John's Cricket Ground, Te Awamu'u, ou Saturday last, and resulted in an easy victory fcr the home team by an innings and 29 runs. The weather was perfect and the ground in very good o:der. There, was a splendid attendance of spectators, the majority being ladies, who very kindly provided afternoon tea. The match all through was played in a most friendly manner, and another visit from the Uliaupo team will be anxiously looked forward to. Messrs C. Bowden and 8. Reid were the first to go to the wickets, and gave the visitors some trouble before they were dismissed. Perhaps some of the longest hits made up to the present stage of the cup matches this season were made by Mr Jchn Case at this match. On four different occasions he drove the ball clean over the boundary fencis and once landed it over St. John's Church. The Te Awamutu team has been considerably strengthened by the addition of a first-class vvicketkeeperinMrß!ackett,justout from Home, a gentleman between 60 and 70 years of age. Many were enquiring who the old gentleman was, but they had no need to ask if he could play the game or not. The match, Englishmen v. New South Wales, ended in a decisive victory for the latter, with a niargiu of 231) runs. When the Englishmen commenced their second innings they required 003 runs to win,but they "only managed to compile 363, of which Maclarcn contributed 140, Wainwright 6S, Hayward 64 (not out), Ranjitsinhji 44. None of the ot'urrs made any stand, Druce (12) being the only one to'reach double figures.
