SOUTH AUCKLAND RACING CLUB. The date fixed for holding the annual race meeting at Claudelands is apparently well suited to horse owners if we may judge from the number of horses that have been entered for the various events. On no previous occasion have all the events been so well patronised, aud we hope that the majority of the entrants will come forward to do battle on the sth prox. The Claudelands Handicap and the Plying Stakes havo the most entries, with 21 and 24 respectively, the numbers in the other races being Trial Handicap, 15 ; Handicap Hurdles, 16; Cup, 18; Pony Handicap, 15; Steeplechase, 11 ; and Trot 19. The names of the horses arc : Trial Handicap. Seven furlougs.— The Owl, Mosctte, Pubii, Miss Molly, Kvery Time, Try Me, Dorothy, The Needle, Doneraille, Retreat, St. Edith, Syren, Crusade, Royal Conquerer, Shylock. The above contain the entries received in Auckland by Messrs Shade and St rey up to 8 p.m., but as the entiies did not close until 9 p.m. there may be gome to add.
The weights will appear about Thursday next, and the acceptances have to be declared before 9 p.m. on the following Thursday, 24th iust.
