KIRIKIRIROA ROAD BOARD.
The usual meeting of Hie Kirikiriroa Road Beard was held at the Council Chambers, Hamilton East, yesterday. There were pteseut :—Messrs Juo. Gordon (chaitinai), W. Chitty and John Pi i in rose. Credit Balance.—The Clerk reported that the credit balance of the Board amounted to £3OO 9s 2d.
New Road.—Mr E. 11. Cox, cf Tauphi, wrote asking if the Board would contribute towards the cost of forming a road through the Freshfic'd Estate, commencing near Mr Runir.cy's and imining up for a distance of ab;ut 120 chaim. The estimated cost was 15s per chain. — Aftrr some discussion the Board decided to undertake the woik on condition that the applicant contributed two-thirds of the est. Road Expenditure.—-The Foreman of Works, in comp'iaiiec with the reepiest of the Board, for wauled his estimate e;f tho expenditure on road works, which will be requ'red duiinc the pre-ent year in-:'king in all a total of £447. The Chairman said he had also prepared an esliirute at a to'al of £485, \vhieli included the work at Mangaheko bridge. This he said would ullow a margin o' £IOO to come a-ad go on for emergencies. The Clerk said the Board's income for the year would be about £s*o. This was con idered most satisfactory. Jackson'.-: Landing.— The Foreman recommended that about 30 nine-foot posts should be put in at Jackson's Landing, at Taupiri, to prevent the fuither encroachment of the river.— Some of the men hers favoured the planting of Urge v illows, which they thought would grow and prevent thrf bank f<om Hipping.—The Chairman said the water at this spot was 10 or 12 feet deep, and he thought they would have to get the piledrivcr nt work in order to stop the wash.—The Board agieed to accept the suggestion of the chairman, and he was deputed to arrange for the supply of piles and willows and have the work carried out. Gravel. —It was lesolved to call fcr tende s for the supply of 3000 yards of gravel to be placed where requited on roads within the district. It was also decided to divide the work into three contracts, as follows:—From the bcun dary to Hinton's Gu'ly, from Hinton's Gully to Mullion's Guly, and from the latter spot on to Ntarmwahia.
Railway Drain.— The Board resolved to instruct the foreman to have the railway drain at NortliNgaruawahiac'caned out before the wet sea-on set in. Cutting.—The foicman was also requested to widen the cutting on the top of the hill on the road leading to Mr C. A. Davis' farm. This portion of the road is exceedingly narrow at prc'sent, and two traps cannot pas*.
Mangaheke Bridge. —Arrangements were made to have the work at the Mangaheke Bridge carried out as soon as possible. The span is to be increased to 12ft., instead of Bft. as originally intended.
Accounts.—The following accounts were naesed for payment: —J. Franklin, £8 ; R Johnston, 10s ; F. W. Littlewood, 10s ; «Ls. Kelly, £ 1 4-. Sledges.—Mr Chitty referred to the damage that was being done to the county roads in the Ngaruawabia and Kitiliiriroa districts by the me of sledges He asked if there was any law to prevent such traffic, and as theic appeared to be some doubt utjoa the question, the clerk was requested to supply the necessary information at u< xt meeting, when steps will be taken to stop the traffic.
