TUBERCULOSIS.
(BYTELEGRAFH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT). Auckland, Last Night. Mr W. Rosser, Veterinary Surgeon, of Reinuera, writes to the Star on the subject of tuberculosis in cattle, in which he states that the diseasa is very preva'ent amongst cows in Auckland. Mr Rosser says :—" I have held a post mortem on cows where the mesenteric glands affected and found-the right and left kidneys lying among the intestines, which were in a very decayed state. The abdomen was full of yellow cheesylooking substance, and there were conglomerations which appeared half vascular and half calcareous or fatty. The body was almost bloodless and the muscles pale and flabby and lacked their natural moisture. Another post mortem on a cow showed the lungs to be affected with tuberculosis. The milk of this animal was being used up to a fortnight before it was killed. One cow was mi ked up to the time I ordered it to be shot. Another cow was ill the worst stage of tuberculosis, and the milk was being used up to the day I was called in and ordered it to be destroyed. I may mention an instance of a cow with a cancer at the anus where the rrots ran up as far as the shoulder, and also of two other cows, one of which had cancer of the eye and was at large for two months, and the other with a bleeding cancer of the eye was running on the roads for months. The milk from these cows is not fit for pigs, much less for household use."
