A million acres of forest are cut down every year to supply European railway companies with sleep :ra on which the lines arc laid. Ten yeirs ago 64,003 people spoke nothing but pure Ir:sh. In 1891 there were 36,003. In 1831 there were 885,003 who could speak Irish and English, and last year there were only 643,000.
