KIHIKIHI.

Farewell Service.—There was a large

congregation at the Presbyterian Church here last Sunday night, the occasion beiog the farewell service and address of their much-esteemed pastor, the Rev. J. McDonald, who left for his new charge during the week. Mr McDonald and also Mrs McDonald (who was universally beloved by all who knew her; will be much missed, more e f pecially by the children on whose behalf they were always active. Death.—An oil Kihikihi identity ha 3 just passed away I refer to the death - of poor old " Billy " Burton, which took place at the Waikato Hospital on Sunday night last ; he had not long been in the hospital, but showed signs of a general breaking-up when he left here, and mubt have rapidly got worse. Burton was about sevtnty years of age, and at one time in his colonial carter was possessed of considerable wealth ; but he died in comparative poverty. Annual Picnic—The annual picnic was held in Mr Floyd's paddock on Thursday, and was favoured with fine weather. There was a large attendance, many families coming from Te Awamutu, Rangiaohia and other parts. The committee and their energetic Secretary, Mr F. Corboy, had everything necessary provided, and wo:ked hard to entertain everyone. The customary dance was held in the Town Hall in the evening, and was also well attended. Harvesting. The wheat, oat and barley crops in this district are fast being gathered in, and in most cases are, I am glad to report, much better than was at first anticipated ; there are in fact some very heavy yields promised this season. Messrs Hutchinson, Bryant and O'Connor in particular have secured heavy crops of wheat, and Mrs MacdoDald a grand paddock of barley. Mr Harry Hunt is well prepared for the threshing and chaffcutting season, having lately purchased a splendid new threshing machine, also an improved chaffcutter—(Own Correspondent).
