HAWERA MARKETS
The Eumont Farmers' Union (Limited), report under date—Hawera, January 20, 1898 :—At Manaia on the 12th the yards were well filled considering the time of year, the attendance was small, and bidding for stock was practically neglected, resulting in but little business being done. We quote: Springers, £3 to £3 ss; heifer 3in calf, £2 to £2 12s 6d ; eighteen months old heifers, £1 to £llos ; yearlings, mixed, 16s to £1 Is. On Friday, at Stratford, probably on account of the bush fires, a gcod number of the stock advertised did not reach the yards, and the majority of those yar.led were turned home unsold. We held our usual fortnightly sale at the Glover Road Yard*, ou Wednesday, the 19th, and although a good entry of useful stock came forward, bidding for others than a few prime fat cows was neglected. We quote : Fat cows, £3 to £3 2s ; two-year-old steers, £1 19s to £2 103 6d ; springers, £2 15s to £3 ; heifers in calf, £1 10s to £1 17s 6d ; yearlings, mixed, 16s 6d to £1 Is.
