SUNDAY WORK IN MINES.

(BY telegraph—own correspondent). ... , Paeroa,- Last Night. The Warden to-day gave judgment in the case of the Waihi Company's appeal against the decision of the Inspector of Mines regarding the employment of men at the. batteries on Sunday. He'held that the definition of mine included batteries, and thought no mining should be carried on except what was absolutely necessary according to the new Act, and therefore that the Inspector had no power to allow stampers to run on Sunday. As this is an important matter to different companies, it would be more satisfactory to have a Supreme Court ruling. No argument had been laid before him, but as far a? he crmld tee the intention of the Legislature was that no work shall be carried on on goldfields on Sunday unless it is absolutely necessary. The application was therefore refused.
