TROUBLE IN INDIA.

Calcutta, Januaay 17. Sergeant Walker, who has been kept a prisoner for three weeks by the Afridis, has been released. Until General Lockharfc returns from his three months' furlough, Geueral C. E. Nuirne, C. 8., commander of the forces in the Bombay province, will act as Commander-in-Chief of the Army in India, Lieu-tenant-General Sir A. A. P. Palmer taking command of the Tirah expedition. The Bonerwal tribes hare practically submitted to the British. The rising at Makram is becoming extensive. The British camp has been looted, and 13,000 rupees and many rifles stolen. It is believed the British officers effected their escape.
