AUCKLAND BUILDING SOCIETY.
BANCROFT'S DEFALCATIONS. (by telkgrapii—own courkspontknt). Auckland, Last Night. At the annual meeting of the Industrial and Provident Building Society, the report stated that the manager Bancroft absconded, taking a considerable amount of cash belonging to the Society, leaving deficiencies since discovered, as shown by the balance-sheet, of £1824, and with errors in previous balance-sheets, making a total of nearly £2,003. Of this amouut £IOOO was covered by policy of iusurance in the Accident Scciety, leaving a b'ila,nce of £IOOO to be borne by the Society. The directors recommended the acceptance of an offer to purchase the Society's business, which has been made by a syndicate, and which will yield shareholders twenty shillings in the pound.
