A PECULIAR CASE.
(by telegraph.—own correspondent). Wellington, Last Night. A peculiar case came befoie Mr Eyre Kenny, S.M., today, when John Reeve was charged with stealing at Foxton a mare, the property of Maria Wakefield. The Magistrate said from what he had heard this was an attempt to enforce a civil claim by ciiminal process. Mr Wilford, solicit' r, went into the I ox and said the kectued acted under his advice in taking the animal away. Mr Kenny thought it was no use going on with the case, but Inspector Pender applied for a remand. It was stated that the prosecutrix had a receipt for the mare. Eventually the case was adjourned to enable Mrs Wak field to appear.
