Several settlers were burnt out and much damage was done. Rain tell early tins morning. At Carterton yes'erduy bush fires, fanned by the north west wind, raged a'ong the f ice of the Tararua Hi'.ls behind Jiclviderc and Dalesfield. Fences and sheds and a few sheep were destroyed. Rain checked the fires at midnight.
