RAGLAN.

Congregational Church—At the commencement of the New Year the Rev. C. A. Lyons returned to this place after spending several weeks at Gore. He has now received a unanimous call from the congregation there, and has accepted the same, and at the end of the present month he is expected to leave Raglan for the sphere of his new duties. During his absence in December Mr Bull and other friends conducted the various services here. It is not known at present who will succeed him in the pastorate of the church here.

Picnic—Amongst many of the picnics now being held (and they occur nearly everyday, now to one place or other), was that in connection with the Mutual Improvement Society, which took place on the beach near Mr Langley's residence, and at a locality known as Doughboy Island. A fair number assembled, and a very pleasant day's outing was enjoyed, filled in with games for the young or a quiet walk and chat along the shore for those of older years. Dinner and tea were spread out under the shade of the trees near the shore, and all enjoyed the good things provided.

Rain.—Welcome rain came down on Tuesday night and Wednesday, and, whilst interfering with the harvest operations (a good area of oats being cut), it was very welcome and has made the parched land look green again. Steamer.—On Wednesday morning the s.s. Kanierei came in from Kawhia, and shortly after left for Onehunga. She took away a large number of Raglan settlers and their families, who are going to Auckland for a change.—(Own Correspondent),
