ENGINEERS' STRIKE.
London, January 1. In the bullot by the Society of Engineers, 55,000 voted against accepting the employers' proposal, and 1041 in favour of them. There were 42,665 against 51 hours per week, and 8515 in favour. The Labour Federation has informed the workmen that the truce entered into between employers and unions, pending the result of the Engineers' Conference, has ended. Owing to the engineers' strike in England Russia has ordered 200 engines for the new Siberia Eailway from American firms. Colonel Dyer, President of the Employers' Federation, invites the nion to withdraw their demands with regard to hours, and to return to work subject to the last Conference's terms to which the Federation intend to adhere. t« The officials of the Employers' Federation have private information showing that continental employers are largely contributing to the engineers' strike fund. The Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, lato John Elder and Co., of Glasgow, have withdrawn the lock-out notices which had been issued to twenty-five per cent, of the engineers and Unionist workmen.
