OTOROHANGA RAJES. (UY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL RErORT|->). OTOHOIIAXGA, Last Night. Thk annual meeting of the Otorohauga Jookey Club was held on Tuesday last under the most favourable conditions. The weather was all tliut could be desired, the attendance large, and the racing gcod throughout, several of the events being most kc n'y contested, resulting iu close finishes, which go to gladden the hearts of the hundicappors. The arduous duty, which usually falls to the lot of the stewards of country meetings, was most abiy performed by the ofliccra of the clu'>. To the popular Secretary, Mr Pepene Ekctone, great credit is due for the manner in which he worked to bring the meeting to a successful i-sue. Mr John lletet, as per usual, gave evcy satisfaction with the flag, despatching his fields in nn tllicieut style. Mr McNaught, who had a hard clay's work at the scales, proved himsjlf undoubtedly the right man in the r'ght place. The greatest good humour prevailed throughout ths meeting, which was marked by the usual sobriety of all present, a characteristic not always attachable to race meeting ß ! even in a prohibited district ; couecquently tin duties of Constables Stanycr," McDonnell and Cuvanagh were of a somewhat lighter nature than usual. A strong contingent of the Auckland talent patronised the meeting, but the bulk of the pencilling fell to the share of our own two popu'ar local nietaliicians. The clay's proceeding.- were brought to a close by a largely attended ball, held iu Mr lletit's hall, wh-re darning was kept up t : ll a late lnur, the music being most ably provided by Mrs Mjscii and Mr W. Waiuku, was brought up from New Plymouth iu the Gaiiloch today. Levanter is now friendless in double event wagering on the Cup and Steeplechase. It is stated that Muscatel will not be brought up from New Plymouth until after the first day's racing, her mission being on the second aud third clays of the n celing.
