CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held on Thursdoy evening at 7.30 p.m. There were present :—His Worship of Mayor (Mr A. Bach), Councillors Wells, Clark, Wright, Simpsou, Escott, Kerr, Arnold and Howe. Transfer ok Properties.—MrjGeorge Henson wrote asking to have two of his acres transferred to his daughters.— The Gerk was instructed to tell him that the written consent of his daughters must be obtained before the alteration could be made. Advertising the Bououon.—The New Zealand Photographic Company wrote offering to supply the Council with frames 36 by 30 inches, c-.ntaining 11 full and 2 three-quarter plate plio'os of the town and the necessary printing, at 27s each, for not less than a dozen. Mr James Reid, of Hamilton, also wrote asking to be allowed to tender for the work, and offering to submit a frame of appropiiate views.— After considering " way 3 mid means " it was resolved to obtain a dozen such frames of views, Cr. Wells dissenting.— It was reaolved to invite eenders for the woik. the M<tyor, Crs. Wells, C.'ark and Ercott being authorised to accept such tenders and carry out the woik.
Finance.—Overdraft at loth November, £9B 9s ; accounts since paid, £sl lis Id ; amount lodged, £33 10s 91 ; prtSi nt overdraft, £ll6 9s 4d ; accounts to pass, £2O 0s lOd; overdraft when accounts are paid, £136 10s 2d. The following is a list of the accounts passed for payment : H. Prcece, £6 12s ; G. Wayman, £1 17s 6.1; P. Fogarty, £1 18s 3d ; R. Brock elsby, 6s; T. Hartly, £4 16s 5d ; H. Turnlmll, 8s ; P. Cooper, £4 3s Bd. Works.—ln addition to the usual routine works of the borough executed during the month, the footpath on the eastern side of Victoria-street near Mr Howard's store had been lowered considerably, which was acknowledged by all to be a great improvement. It hud been done at a cost of £5 7s 3d, exclusive of the kerbing, which was considered very reasonable and even cheaper than if it had been let by contract. The Karapiro Bridge.—The Mayor said the repairs to the Karapiro bridge had been executed at a cost of £4 2s Bd. They had been rendered necessary by Mr W. Morgan's waggon acciden'ally smashing it, and it was for the Council to say what amount, if any, that gentleman should be oiled upon to pay.— After some discussion the Mayor moved, and Cr Wells seconded, that Mr Morgan be asked to pay half the cost of repairs.—Mr Clark moved as an amendment that Mr Morgan be charged £1 only.—This was seconded by Cr. Wrigh*. —On being put, the amendment was carried, the voting being :—For—Crs. Wright, dark, Kerr, Simpson and Arnold. Against—The Mayor, Crs. Wells, Howe and Escott. Footpaths.—The West Ward Committee recommended that the footpath on the south side of the Hamilton road be fo;mcd from Grey-street to Hallstreet.—The work was authorised to bo done under the supervision of that Committee. The Watbrfall Bath.—The South Ward Committee was oidered to get the staging of the shower bath at Moon's fall raised and a good stringer put under it. Section 585 —The grass in this section is to be cut and placed round the trees and Bhurbs planted thereon as mulching. Leave of Absence.—Cr. Wells was granted leave of absence for three months. We understand he intends taking a trip to the South Island for a summer vacation.
