NGARUA WAHIA

Bali*.— The plain and fancy dress ball in aid of the funds of the Young Ladies' Rowing Club took place in the Mi 11 Hall on .Fiiday, the 19th inst., and. as was anticipated, was an immense success. The weather was favourable aud consequently the. attendance was good. The young ladies worked with their accns tomed zeal, and the result cannot but be satisfactory to them, financially as well as otherwise. The hall was most tastefully decorated. Among the ordinary decorations oats and miniature boats were very conspicuous. Mr W. Paterson acted as M.C., and the music, which was of the first class, was provided by the Misses Soppett. and Gillespie, and Master J. Harris. Daiuiug was commenced shortly after S o'clock. The most striking costumes were those of Miss Butcher, who appeared as Shamrock, Miss Krickson, who looked very well as The Queen of Hearts, Miss Long, of To Awair.ufu, as l'atohtvork, and Miss Gtoshatn, wdio sustained the character of Pompadour. Others in fancy dress were:—Miss Do Montalk, Undergraduate ; Miss Edwards, Dolly Yarden ; Miss (iraee Butcher, Good buck ; Mrs Gould, Schoolgirl; Mr A. Long, FoUv, and Mr H 11. Gould, Cricketer. At halfpast eleven the whole company sat down to supper, provided by the ladies of the district, after which dancing was resumed and kept up with spirit till two o'clock, when all dispersed to their respective homes, WICI.COMK Hack —The many friends of Mr and-Mrs 11. McKenzie will be pleased to learn that they are back again one • more wi h us, and that this time they have come to stay. Mr McKenzie is very popular with the young men of the township, and joins in heartily with them in all their sport. For several years he managed the Ngaruawahia branch of Mr K. Jones' saddlery business, but some short time ago was removed to lake charge of the l'ueroa branch. However, Mr McKenzie has now bought the tusiuess, and with his past record will no doubt be succes«ful.— (Own Correspondent).
