THE SUGAR BEETROOT INDUSTRY.
TO TJIi; KDITOIi. Sin, —A telegram has been received by Messrs Lewenberg and Harvey from Wellington, informing them that unless Waikato moves in the matter the Sugarbeet Root Bill will be dropped. This will be a serious disappointment to all who have been patiently waiting for this industry to start. The reaction in the goldmining industry and the increasing depression in the city of Auckland should engage the serious attention of all parties. The inducement which the Beetroot Industry would afford to hundreds of families to come and settle in Waikato, to take up sections of the partially improved Assets Boards Estates, which ut present are an anxiety to the finance and administration of the distiict, should make everyone who lu'.s any influence with the Government move at ouce to get the Hill passed this session. If it is not passed, Waikato will continue to retrograde, for the Beet-sugar Industry is her speciality and the only base for the dairy and agricultural interests in Waikato to rely upon. The longer it is delayed the longer will Waikato farmers' progress be postponed.— I am, etc , William A. Graham. Hamilton, November 19th, 1597.
