RAGLAN.

Contracts.—The following tenders for road works were accepted at the last meeting of the Raglan County Council Works Committee :—Repairing Black Bridge, Te Mata : Kendell and Co., £10 13s. New bridge, Kahuhura Valley:

A. E. Cogswell, £15. Green and Creekstreet formation : Collins and Rendell, £16 10s. Bow and Cliff-street metalling : Johnstone Bros., £40. Raglan - Waipa road metalling : Collins and Rendell, £30. Waingaro.—During the last fortnight or so the Inspector of Works has been busily engag.'d iu laying off different sections of work in this district, chiefly on the Kahuhura Valley and Ngarua-wahia-Spring roads. Amongst them is one hundred chains of formation and one mile of metalling on these rojds. Tenders are. being called for £loo of work on these roads this week. Trout. —It seems, from communication received from Mr Cheeseman, Secretary of the Acclimatisation Society, that they propose sending over for distribution in the streams of the Raglan distiict two thousand trout fry. They are to arrive at the Frankton Junction on November 25th, and no doubt the County authorities will send a suitable person to meet the train, receive the young frj and see to their final distribution in various streams.

Congregational Mission.—On Saturday alternoan and evening there was a large gathering from all parts of the district in the Public Hall to celebrate the anniversary of the mission. A sale of useful and artistic work was carried on during the afternoon. The most pleasing feature to the eye was the gigantic Christmas tree, which was • loaded with attractive articles. At (j p.m. a large company sat down to a plentiful and choice tea, which did great credit to the ladies—. Mrs Lyon, Misses Bay, Conradi, Johnstone, Savage, Vercoe, Mold and several others. After tea the Rev. C. A. Lyon took the chair. After welcoming all present, he called upon Mrs Mathias, whose name was first ou the programme, to give a solo on the piano. The following items followed : Heading, " Mark Twain's Watch," Mr La Trobe ; piano solo, Mrs E. 0. Wall's (encored) ; song, " They all love Jack," Mr E. O. Wallis ; address by the Rev. C. A. Lyon. Mrs E. 0. Wallis then coneluded the musical porcion of the tainment bj\a solo on the piano. friends expected from Auckland did not arrive, which was much regretted. The Jhristmas tree was lighted up with,- a number of coloured candle lamps, and the effect was excellent. Mr Langley then proceeded to dispose of the articles by auction, and good prices were realised.—(Own Correspondent).
