NGARUAWAHIA.

Dejiatisc; Society.—The session of the Debating and Social Society closed on Friday, the 12th inst., with a Concert and Dramatic Performance. The first part ot tho programme consisted of musical items, which were as follows : Overture, by Mr J. Harris. Song, " Genevieve," by Mr Schutz. This item was well received, and Mr Sehatz bad to submit to an encore. Song, " Old And New," by Miss Butcher, which was deservedly encored. Duet, " Juanita," by Miss Grace Butcher and Mr J. S. Crown. This item was exceptionally well rendered, and as it was Mr Brown's first appearance, we must congratulate him on his success. Song, '• The Turn Key," by Mr W. Paterson (encored). Song, " The Flieht of Ages," by Miss Byrne. Song (comic) " Last Night," by Mr A. J. Simmelhag, who responded to an encore with " Our Neighbourhood." Song, " When Sparrows Build," liv Miss Grace Butcher (encored). lleadiug, " A Hard Case," by the Rev. A. M. Bradbury. Sone, "White Wings," by Miss Paterson. This concluded the first part. The second part of the programme consisted of a farce entitled

7l Whitebait at Greenwich." The various characters were sustained by Mr i . Hunt as Benjamin Buzzard, Mr E. L. Snelling as Mr Glimmer, Mr Brown as John Small, Miss Gil'espic as Miss Lucretift llnzzard, and Miss N. Paterson as Sally. Each of the characters was well taken ; a fact, which reflects great credit on the performers, none of whom had ever acted before. It may be mentioned that the audience was remarkably well pleased, and considered it the best thing of its kind that has been perI'oimed in NganiAwahia.—(Own Currespondent).
