♦ School Examination.—The .annual examination was held last week, and of fifteen children presented in the various standards, all passed successfully. The Inspector (Mr Dickeuson) gives great credit to Miss Wilson, the teacher, for the way she brings the children on, and the parents all regret that she considered it her duty to apply for removal on account of the small attendance. I understand she leaves for her new sphere of labour in about a week.
Mutual Social.—A social gathering was held in the schoolroom on Friday last, to wind up the Mutual Improvement classes, Mr Macky in the chair. The room was crowded, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The Chairman gave a short resume of the winter's work, and then called on Miss Daisy Bowden for a violin solo, which was well rendered. Mr Geoff. Bowden sang " Fiona " ; reading by Mr Stewart Reid, very humourous ; song, " Surely," Miss Oermann ; song, " The Holy City," Mr Kavanagh ; reading, " Cod-fish and Oysters," Mr Germanu. Then followed the reading of an address by Lillie Ohye to Miss Wilson and the presentation of a gold broocli by the school children, which was followed by a few remarks by Mr Ryburn, Chairman of the School Committee, who after expressing regret at Miss Wilson's early departure, read a very flittering resolution from his committee. Mr Germann, on behalf of Miss Wilson, thanked the children for their kind address and beautiful present, and also the committee for their kindness. He then called upon those present to give an expression of appreciation, when all joined in long and loud applause. Miss D. Bowden then opened the second part of the concert with a violin solo. Mr Kay, vice-rresident of the society, gave an entertaining address on " Mutual Improvement." Song, " The Romany Lass,*' Mr John Kay : song, " Fiddle and I," Miss Germann ; song, " My Sweetheart When a Boy," Mr Kavanagh : reading, Mr W. Sing ; song, " When Other Lips," Mr Geoff. Bowden. " Auld Lang Syne " by the whole audience brought the concert to a close. Refreshments were soon after served aud the inevitable dance followed. I.\ii'Ko\k.ments.—The interior of the hall has recently been much improved by j& a couple of coats of paint and the bookcase of the libraiy considerably enlarged, so that the old building looks quite changed and cheerful.-(Own Correspondent)
