NGARUAWAHIA ROWING CLUB.

The season was opined by a series of trial tours on "Wednesday, the 3rd hut., In spite of the heavy rain that set iu on that particular afternoon, live crews entered. The first heat was rowed between a crew representing Messrs Friar, Davies and Co.'s store, consisting of F. Hunt (stroke), Snelling (,'i), Linch (2) and IJai ey (1), and a Maori crew, consisting ot I'. Aubrcv (stroke), Terawhiti (3), Roll (2) and Aubny (1). This proved a good race from the start, and as both boats entered the Waipa, a distance of 150 yards from the winning post, the store crew had a slight lead, but the natives rising ti> the occasion soon reduced the lead to nil, and eventually won.

The second heat was rowed between the civil service crow, represented by T. 11. Wells (stroke;, Brown (:!), Skelton (2) and Williams (1), and a cartels' crew, consisting of Marshall (stroke), Paterson (3), Roper (2) and Hammond (1). Both beats kept well together till the mouth of the Waipa was reached, when the carters gradually forged ahead and won as they pleased.

The third heat was rowed between the native crew mentioned above and a creamery crew, consisting of Paynter (stroke), Collins (3), Gillander (2) and Hntt (1). This was certainly the race of the day, loth crews doing their very best from start to linUh. On arriving at the mouth of the Waipa both boats were well together, the creamery crew having a slight advantage, which they maintained till the finish.

This left two crews, viz., tie creamery and the carters', to compete in the final heat. The race resulted in a win for the creamery boys after a very stiff contest. Thus was concluded a very good day's racing. During the past week another gig has been added to the fleet of the Rowing Club. The boat was purchased from the West End Rowing Club, Auckland, the money being raised by subscriptions.— (Own Correspondent).
