TE AWAMUTU.

"H.M.S. Pinafore."-The Musical Society are now busy rehearsing and otherwise generally preparing for next Friday evening, which is their first night's performance of Gilhert and Sullivan's popular and charming nautical comic opera, " H.M.S. Pinafore." Splendid new and very expensive scenery has been secured specially for this production, and the dresses of the performers are veiy gorgeous. Mr Long, the popular conductor, has got all the principals well-drilled and the choruses aie very strong. There is also a first-class orcliC'tra. Those who have not yet had the p'casure ef witnessing "Pinafore" performed should not miss this opportunity, for it is well worth travelling a long distance to sec. iS'o doubt a number of our Hamilton and Cambridge friend* will be present, fr.r we all know that they are fond of a real good opera. The second night's pciforinance will take place on the following Wednesday, 13th intt., and the Friday following at Ohaupo. Ciuckkt Club.— The annual met ting of the Te Awamutu Cricket Club was held in Mr Lewis' Hotel, on Saturday last. The attendance was \ try fair, Mr J. W. M. Singleton presiding. The report was rend us follows : " Your Committee have much pleasure in informing you that the past season has been a most successful ('lie in every \v»y. Eight Association (' lib matches have been played, seven of which were won by Te Awamutu, and one lost, and that only by three i tins, thus leaving Te Awamutu the winn rs of the Association caps for the season One out-side match was played against a visiting team from T.-iraru (t'hames), which resulted in a nominal win for the local club, though in justice to Tararu, it must be said that had the match been played right out the chances were rather in favour of Tararu. Financially the c'ub is in a better position than at the commencement of the season. It has been lather an expensive season for the playing members of the club and it wou'd not be out of place to mention that the marches played at home cost the players more than those which they had to travel for. It \V( old be advisable to make some arrangement to entertain visiting teams which shcu'd be strictly adhered to, when a local match costs the players over (is each it is far more than the majority can afford. The committee would suggest that this matter be discussed at a full meeting. Taking everything together the club is to be congramlated on having had a most successful season. As will be seen by the balancesheet, players have paid up promptly and honoraiy members have also been very liberal with their contributions. The Seerjtary read the balance-sheet for the past season, which showed a small ciedit balance. The balance-sheet as read was adopted. The Secretary stated that he had received the Association caps which were won by the club aud had distributed them among the members. Mr.), Case was authorised to get a 10i Cd hat for his performance of the " hat trick " at one of the matches played during the season. After a short discussion it was iinaiiiiiioiis'y agreed that the club be again formed for this season, when the following officers were unanimously elected for the ensuing year : President: Mr James Cottro'l ; vicePresidents : Mcsis (.'. J. Storey, P. O'Connor, W. Taylor, J. Gcodfeliow and Dr. Pairman ; C-iptain : Mr Singleton (in-elected) ; Committee : Messrs R. Griffith, J. Watson, S. Conn, S. Lewis and D. Diliu ; Secretary and Treasurer : Mr ('. Bowden (ic-elcctrd). The members' subscription was fixed at os. It was decided to have the first practice on Saturday week in the Pun u Domain, when all intending members are requested to attend or send in their names to the secretary. Some discussion took place with regard to the Domain Board allowing people to graze cattle on the Domain, which has only recently been laid down in new grass, as it was understood that the authorities would allow nothing but sheep on the ground. The matter was left in the hands of the committee to attend to. The meeting closed with the customary vote of thanks lo the chair and also to the outgoing committee.
